I am directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to.
acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 9th in-
stant stating that it is proposed to invite the ob-
servations of the Governor of Hong Kong on the right
of vessels from Hong Kong to call at the new Ports
which are to be opened under Article X of the Commer-
cial Treaty recently concluded with the Chinese
Government.
I am to state that Lord Lansdowne sees no objec-
tion to this proposal but that he hopes that the
Governor's observations will be obtained with the
least possible delay.
